BigCommerce practice

We engineer BigCommerce from the Open SaaS core to agentic checkout.

That means the Open SaaS platform and a Catalyst storefront, the B2B and integration layers, and the product data that decides whether AI agents surface your catalog — built around what your business is trying to achieve.

What’s moving in BigCommerce

BigCommerce is leaning into open, composable, and agentic.

At Commerce Live 2026, BigCommerce’s parent renamed itself Commerce and set a clear direction: an Open SaaS core you build on your own terms, a headless storefront in Catalyst, native B2B automation, and a data layer that feeds AI-driven discovery. The work now spans the platform, the storefront, and the product data behind them.

Open SaaS
Composable, with the plumbing handled

Open APIs and composability sit on hosting, security patching, PCI, and version upgrades included in the subscription, with no forced version end-of-life. You customize the parts that differentiate you and leave platform maintenance to BigCommerce.

Catalyst & Makeswift
Headless with a built-in visual editor

Catalyst is BigCommerce’s Next.js and React Server Components storefront on the GraphQL Storefront API, scoring 100 on Lighthouse out of the box. Makeswift lets marketers edit it visually, and Native Hosting on Cloudflare now runs the result.

Agentic commerce
Your catalog has to read clearly to agents

Feedonomics Agentic Catalog Exports, the BigCommerce MCP server (live to all stores), and an Agentic Checkout Kit push product data onto ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Perplexity, PayPal, and Stripe. Being chosen there starts with complete, accurate product data.

B2B, automated
Native depth for complex buying

B2B Edition adds AI-driven purchase-order automation, cascading price lists, company accounts, and event-driven webhooks, with B2B and B2C moving onto one experience. More of the hard B2B work is native to the platform.

Each of these depends on the others: agents need structured catalog data, a Catalyst front-end needs its integrations, and a B2B rollout needs price lists, terms, and fulfillment wired correctly. Connecting them across the platform is the work.

Where BigCommerce fits

Why teams land on BigCommerce — and when it’s the right call.

We work across the commerce platforms, so this is an honest read. BigCommerce wins on a few specific dimensions, and knowing which ones matter to you settles most of the platform decision.

Total cost of ownership

For B2B brands and stores past a few million in GMV, the SaaS subscription folds in hosting, patching, and upgrades, and often lands below a self-hosted stack once developer time is counted. A BigCommerce-commissioned IDC study put B2B Edition at ~391% three-year ROI with a seven-month payback; read vendor-sponsored figures as directional, and the pattern still holds.

Native B2B depth

Company accounts, quoting, cascading price lists, purchase-order workflows, and buyer hierarchies ship with the platform. For distributors and manufacturers, that means less custom code to build and maintain.

No forced upgrade cliffs

There is no version end-of-life that turns into a paid re-platform project. That matters to teams weighing a move off Magento Open Source, whose 2.4.6 support ends in August 2026.

Open where it counts

Open APIs, a real headless path in Catalyst, and the option to adopt single pieces — even Feedonomics catalog data on top of another platform — keep your architecture free to change as you grow.

Where your needs run to deeply bespoke checkout logic or a very large self-hosted catalog, we’ll point you to Adobe Commerce, commercetools, or a composable route instead. The recommendation follows your commercial reality.

Across the lifecycle

Across every stage of your BigCommerce build — selection to activation.

Most teams start at one stage and grow into the rest. Keep one partner across that arc, and the data model, architecture, and integrations set early are shaped by the same people who later run and tune them.

01
Select & architect

Where BigCommerce fits, whether Enterprise or standard makes sense, a headless Catalyst build versus Stencil, and how the integrations map — each decided against your commercial goals.

02
Build

The storefront itself — a Next.js Catalyst build or a Stencil theme — plus the B2B logic and price lists, checkout and Open Checkout, and a catalog structured to last.

03
Migrate & replatform

Moving onto BigCommerce from Magento, a legacy suite, or another SaaS — preserving catalog, customers, order history, URLs, and search equity through the move.

04
Run

Managed services that keep the store stable and improving, with a team already planning the next release while the current one runs.

05
Optimize

Conversion and merchandising work, Core Web Vitals, and catalog tuning — each change measured against the numbers you already track.

06
Personalize & activate AI

Personalization driven by first-party data, agent-ready catalog data through Feedonomics, and BigCommerce’s own AI — Companion and the MCP server — used where the payoff is real.

What we cover

The ground we cover on BigCommerce — front-end to Feedonomics.

You might need one column here or all four. Wherever a project reaches — the storefront, the platform, the integrations, or the data underneath — the same pod covers it.

Where we focus

Two moves that pay off most on BigCommerce today.

We work across all of it, and two kinds of work matter most for teams on BigCommerce right now: replatforming onto Open SaaS, and getting catalog data ready for an agent-driven channel.

Play one
Replatforming onto Open SaaS, decided honestly

The pressure to move is real — Magento Open Source 2.4.6 support ends in August 2026, and self-hosted upgrade cycles keep pulling budget back into the platform. A replatform is a real project, and the catalog migration is the straightforward part; the integrations and B2B rules are where the work concentrates.

We scope it straight: what moves, what gets rebuilt, how the B2B rules and integrations re-home, and how search equity survives cutover. Where BigCommerce is the right landing spot, we plan and run the migration in weeks; where it is not, we say so before you commit budget.

Getting the catalog chosen by AI agents

Discovery is shifting into AI agents, and BigCommerce pushes product data onto those surfaces through Feedonomics and its MCP server. Inclusion is becoming standard; being chosen comes down to catalog data that is complete, accurate, and readable to agents, with reliable inventory and fulfillment signals behind it.

We treat this as a data and operations problem: structuring product data to the signals those surfaces reward, wiring Feedonomics exports and the Agentic Checkout Kit, and keeping the inventory and shipping data underneath accurate in real time.

How we deliver

One senior pod that owns storefront to data.

Storefront, platform, integration, and data specialists work as one pod, carrying a project from architecture through launch so the decisions made early still hold at the end.

Led by one accountable owner

Your Pod Leader owns outcomes end to end and is the single contact for everything that ships.

Every skill on one team

Storefront, platform, integration, and data engineers sit together, so work passes between them directly.

Engagements that scale to the work

Pick a full pod, skill augmentation, a monthly retainer, or a block of hours — and change it as the work changes.

Senior engineers on the hard calls

Experienced engineers stay on your build through a global delivery model, so senior depth is on hand when an architecture or integration call comes up.

Judged on results

We hold ourselves to what the work produces — conversion, stability, and time to market.

Yours to run afterward

We write the documentation alongside the build and coach your team on the platform, so running it after launch sits with you.

What good delivery looks like

Why cxontology

Why teams hand us their hardest BigCommerce work.

A BigCommerce store connects into the systems you already run — the ERP and OMS, the analytics and CRM, and the marketing stack. We engineer the storefront and platform with those connections in view.

01
We hold your objectives as our own

Our consultants speak both engineering and business, so we tie platform decisions to what the company is trying to do — revenue, margin, and time to market.

02
End to end, in your context

From storefront to fulfillment integration to agentic checkout, we design each piece to work with your existing ERP, OMS, and CRM.

03
Platform-agnostic advice

We work across the commerce platforms, so our read on where BigCommerce fits is honest and grounded in your requirements.

In brief: a cross-functional team that engineers BigCommerce across storefront, platform, B2B, integrations, and data, and delivers it as a single accountable engagement.
